Have you seen other industry professionals using unique virtual backgrounds during meetings and wondered how to get your own? In this video, we will provide a step by step guide on how to upload and use your own custom virtual backgrounds on Zoom.  

Step 1: Begin by opening your Zoom application and selecting “New Meeting.” Once the meeting room opens, you will see yourself with your current background. 

Step 2: Move your cursor to the bottom left corner of the screen where you can see the camera icon and click the small upward facing arrow to open ‘camera options.’ 

A menu of camera options will appear. The top section will list the different camera options your computer has available, including any external webcams. The section beneath this allows you to select live video editing options, such as filters, avatars, and backgrounds. 

Step 3: Select “Choose Virtual Background”> Select the second option down in that section marked “Choose Virtual Background…”

This will open a new window labeled Settings, where you can navigate to a bunch of different options within Zoom. For this task though, we will stay within the “Background and Effects” option. Here, you will see some preset virtual background options provided by Zoom. You can also select the “Blur” feature, which blurs your background, or “None” if you want to remove any other background settings.

Step 4: Above the presets on the right (also just below your live video) is a small plus sign. Click the plus sign and select “Add Image.” This allows you to select photos from your computer to upload into Zoom. 

Once you have selected your desired background image, click “Open” and the image will now appear in the virtual background options next to the preset images. 

Step 5: Select the image and exit the settings menu. Your custom virtual background is set and will automatically appear in all new meetings. 

At any point, you can return to the Settings Menu to change or update your virtual backgrounds as you see fit.
